Chinese Chengyu, Sayings and Idioms

Chinese are patient, also in business. This idiom expresses the notion that success is not achieved overnight: 一蹴而就 Literally it means one step then success The idiom is most often used with a negation in front. I like the idiom especially today used about the Belt and Road Initiative which has the word "road" in its name. The idiom contains the word step 蹴 and thus goes well to describe the Belt and Road initiative which definitely is not something you can achieve overnight. It requires patience and effort and cooperation to get there. It is therefore not 一蹴而就。Learning Chinese is exactly the same. The result will emerge following many sustained steps.

This idiom will impress your business partner but especially so if you use China in the sentence 举足轻重 It means pivotal, important, significant, decisive role For example, you can say (...) 中国占有举足轻重的地位 (.. in our industry/company/country) China plays a pivotal role China probably also plays a pivotal role in your Chinese learning.

Here is an idiom I use a lot instead of just saying more and more 越来越多 I state something and add the idiom 与日俱增 Example Customers from Germany have increased德国客户与日俱增 I find it useful to have this idiom to express "increasing day by day"

Business meeting tip When engaging with your business partner in Chinese, have at least one Chinese idiom 成语 in your arsenal. That usually impresses and could make them take your Chinese learning more seriously. This is an easy one to incorporate in your vocabulary at beginner level 理所当然 Adding idioms to your business Chinese could definitely add another string to your bow.

Google 风雪夜归人 , the result is like some pop and fashionable words. It was used in title of operas, TV dramas, novels, songs, news report etc. In fact , it is a typical image in every Chinese mind, a feeling, an emotion that always startling. The words is the 4th sentence of a 4 sentences Tang poem, 遇雪宿芙蓉山主人 , the poet is on the midway of his 2nd down dispatching to a remote place. Luckily, he was just escaping from the punishment of death penalty.You can feel the helpless and the turning around in the short poem, which memorized by almost every Chinese, if not, he or she should at least remember 风雪夜归人. 逢雪宿芙蓉山主人 刘长卿 日暮苍山远， 天寒白屋贫。 柴门闻犬吠， 风雪夜归人。
